That long-haired terrifying girl that haunted our dreams and television sets is back for another game of Seven Days. After a brief stint in development hell, Rings is finally seeing the light of day with a first official trailer courtesy of Paramount Pictures. Based on the 1998 Japanese horror film Ringu, Rings marks as the third film in the American franchise, following The Ring and The Ring Two, both of which starred Naomi Watts as a mother trying to save herself and her son from the ill-fated Samara.
This time around, however, the story centers around a new lead and reintroduces Samara to the digital age. Rings stars Matilda Lutz as Julia, a young woman forced to watch the infamous tape via e-mail in order to save her boyfriend. Now she must discover another layer of secrets surrounding the tape before her seven days are up and Samara consumes her existence.
Before the Fall helmer F. Javier Gutiérrez picks up directorial duties for Rings, which will have the presumably daunting task of exploring more of Samara’s background after the previous installments went to great detail. We’ll find out what Gutiérrez has up his sleeve come this fall.
Rings haunts theaters October 28 and also stars Aimee Teegarden, Johnny Galecki, Vincent D’Onofrio, Zach Roerig, and Bonnie Morgan.
